The 5 bells of St Swithun’s left on the 3rd February for a total renovation at the bell hangers near Oxford. They came back to us with our brand new 6th bell on 21st April.
The picture shows the new treble bell, upside down all ready to ring at the test ring that took place on 11th May.
So we now have 4 bells made in 1686 (James II), one made in 1841 (Victoria) and one specially made for us in 2021 (Elizabeth II). The clock will be reinstated as soon as it can be arranged with the clock engineer.
It is important to note that none of this work is paid for from church funds, but from our own fundraising, grants and donations.
If you would like to make a donation to the fund see our JustGiving page and don’t forget to tick the Gift Aid box which gives us another 25% from the tax man.
