The Platinum Jubilee in Great Chishill

The Platinum Jubilee weekend saw the folk of the Chishills out and enjoying themselves, celebrating not only 70 years of the reign of Her Majesty but also being able to be together again.

The weekend started with Pimms and Prosecco O’clock in the grounds of the URC, with a licensed bar, live music from Maggie, a BBQ, a crown competition and finally the lighting of a hastily arranged ‘beacon’.

The following day, there was a short service in the church to dedicate the newly refurbished bells 5 bells and the new 6th bell. This was followed by 40 minutes of bell ringing to coincide with the ringing of the bells of St Paul’s Cathedral.

In the evening, there was ‘Scottish Dancing’ on the patio of 12 Heydon Road. This was well attended and ‘entertaining’! Then on the Saturday, there was maypole dancing in the garden of the Pheasant and the presentation of Jubilee mugs to the children of the parish.

The highlight of the day was however the Morris Dancing by the Great Chishill Morris Dancers – a group put together from scratch in just 6 weeks.

On the Sunday, the weather was not so kind for the celebratory event at the Windmill, which reduced the turn out, but those who did go along had an enjoyable afternoon. Pimms24.jpg, Pimms5.jpg, Pimms6.jpg, ScotDance3.jpg, ScotDance6.jpg, ScotDance10.jpg, Morris4.jpg, Morris7.jpg, Morris6.jpg
