Elizabeth Allford has sent this in.
My mum, Muriel Baker, nee Gunnell, who was a member of this parish all her young life sadly passed away on 30th November 2014 aged 88. She was married in St. Swithins church on 14th May 1951. Sadly, my dad passed away earlier this year, in March. They were happily married for 62 years.
She was born and grew up at the Old Bake House Maltings Lane and has many happy memories of village life which she spent her life recounting to us. As she had a deformed left hand with only three fingers, she had to get special permission from the Bishop to wear her wedding ring on her right hand. When she was interviewed to be married, she was almost outraged by the vicar’s question, ‘Are you entitled to wear white?’ Of course she was! How dare he suggest/think otherwise! She was horrified. How times have changed!!
