Peter and Margaret Wynn of Heydon had said years ago that if we ever did a restoration they would donate a 6th bell, and they confirmed that the offer still stood, so the works needed became more complex as there is not room in the frame for more than 5 bells.
After some deliberation, Whites of Appleton (near Oxford) were awarded the contract for the bell work, the Morton Partnership as surveyors, structural engineers and project managers, and Bakers of Danbury as the builders. The lead time for the bellhangers meant that work could not start until early 2022.
At that time it was expected that the cost of the total project would be about £85,000, which meant that we needed to raise £50,000. Then came COVID which curtailed most fund raising events. Prices were rising too and the prospect of doing the job became more and more daunting.
